UK short oval racing is home to many formulas from bangers through stock cars all the way up to hot rods and everything in between. The sport is organised, raced and spectated by a passionate group of people who give up weeknights and weekends to go racing every week. It’s highly competitive but if a team is struggling there’s always helping hands available to get the car on the track. Most teams are family run with multiple generations trackside watching the action and working on the cars between heats.
This projects focus is on the people and their interaction off the racing oval, working on cars, spectating or just having a weekend away from the everyday grind to watch a group of cars crash into each other. The sport has been around since the 1960’s but has seen spectator and competitor numbers drop including closure of a number of oval circuits over the years.
