Currently an on going project documenting local Remembrance Day parades in the small villages and town around the South Staffordshire area.
Remembrance Sunday is a day of reflection and commemoration for the contributions made by British and Commonwealth military service personnel and civilians who served during WW1, WW2 and any conflict afterward. Remembrance is held on the nearest Sunday to November 11th the anniversary of Armistice Day. Local Remembrance parades are very community driven and see whole families attending including pets and normally local dignitaries and councillors will lay wreaths at the end of the service.
While Remembrance is still a significant day in the UK many smaller local parades face a number of challenges which is seeing a decline in this traditional from low attendance numbers, financial and logistical challenges and an aging veteran population have all had an effect on the decline of the parades. There are a number of nation wide focal points which still see record numbers turn out like the National Arboretum and some well organised local communities still see healthy attendance at their parades.
